In the year 2004 NSJ started an exchange programme to assist journalists in gaining experience from other media institutions within the SADC region. According to NSJ Training Manager, Dr. Ransford Antwi, the program was viewed by many as failure before it started. “Everybody told me it will not work. So I took it as a challenge to prove them wrong,” he said.
2007: about to reach the 200 mark
According to Dr. Antwi the number of the beneficiaries of the program is nearing 200. “It is a program that targets SADC journalists and we have had more participants from Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi,” he said. He explained that the two main aims of the program is skills transfering and networking. He said the program covers all aspects of the media such as political reporting, feature writing, editing, radio and television.
Dr. Antwi described the programme as wonderful initiative and urged journalists to make use of it to improve their skills, ideas and expertise in their respective fields. He goes further to explain that it is an avenue for establishing a network of skilled journalists, able to share and discuss experiences for the betterment of their profession.
