Abstract: The Pulse2007 needed more time

In order to create a successful dialogue website, you need time first of all.
According to online journalism expert, Nils Ulrik Pedersen, you cannot expect people to leave a comment on your web articles unless you have created a safe environment in advance that invites people to go into a dialogue – and that takes time. Considerably more time than we used to create our website The Pulse2007.
Nils Ulrik Pedersen also emphasizes that you need to create your website design in a way that invites the users to engage in a dialogue. In our case he points out some problems concerning:
- We use a top down communication with primarily traditional news reporting
- The stories are generally too long
- The website’s focus is set on news, not on dialogue
Furthermore, time is also an important factor when generating traffic on a new website. Web editor, Stine Bille, from JP/Politikens Hus, says that it takes weeks to create knowledge and to promote a new website. Again, the time factor is in focus.
Knowing that traffic is crucial to generate dialogue this could be the reason why The Pulse2007 did not succeed generating dialogue that could have provided the site with more responsive journalism.
