Sightseeing in fast motion
Sightseeing has taken a new form in Aarhus.
Instead of taking a bus, a boat or just walking around the city, groups of runners have seen their city in a high pace but at the same time with a lot of focus.
The idea came from Kenn Munk, who arranges the race and acts as a guide for the groups. He came up with the idea during a visit to Berlin.
“I had brought my running shoes and it struck me how fast you get around in the city.
On one of my runs I ran next to a guided canal tour, and i could hear what the guide said - that´s where I got the idea”.
The concept – now called Sweaty Sightseeing – became part of the yearly celebration Aarhus Festuge.
Here everyone could take part in three different routes through town.
They are cleverly named The treasure hunt, Street art and graffiti and Gateways to hell.
The participants have now started a mailing list, and are planning not only to meet up and run through Aarhus again. They might also take the concept to other cities.
Despite the fact that Kenn Munk came up with the concept, he doesn’t like running through town more than enjoying nature with his running shoes on.
“It is nicer to run in nature, but to run in the city is a part of changing both the concept of sightseeing and the concept of running”.
Sweaty Sightseeing doesn’t only provide the participants with a chance to see their city in a different light. There is also a social aspect, and according to Kenn Munk the participants have seemed to be enjoying themselves so far.
“People think it is interresting, and they seem to get the idea of the concept”.
